Professor Geoffrey Wall

Recently, it’s known from the State Administration of Foreign Expert Bureau, Canadian professor Geoffrey Wall was awarded the “Friendship Award” of Chinese government, which is the highest award granted to foreign experts from Chinese State Department. Professor Geoffrey Wall has obtained the “China Tianshan Award” in 2012 and will go to Beijing to attend the award event.

National “Friendship Award” is organized and implemented by the State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs, aiming at awarding foreign experts who did great contribution to the development of economy and society of China.

Geoffrey Wall has cooperated with CAS since 2004 and has been the Adjunct researcher of Xinjiang institute of Ecology and Geography, the Ph.D. supervisor and the distinguished visiting researcher.

During the period of work in China, Geoffrey Wall participated in 4 writing works about Xinjiang’s World Natural Heritage List to submit UNESCO, which has contributed a lot to the application for the list of world heritage of “Xinjiang Tianshan”. “Xinjiang Tianshan” has been in the list of World Natural Heritage since June, 2013, which finished the history that there’s no World Natural Heritage in western China.

Besides “Xinjiang Tianshan” application work, Geoffrey Wall also takes part in the English part of heritage application of “Xinjiang Altai”. What’s more, he usually offers his guidance and shares his cherishing experiences in many aspects, such as tourism eco-design, eco-tourism environment protection, tourism community. In addition, he is also actively involved in the work of training doctoral students and has guided 12 doctors and 5 masters.
