August 25, CAS and Xinjiang Sci-Tech cooperation forum was held in Urumqi. Deputy party secretary and chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Nur Bekri and CAS party secretary and president Bai Chunli attended the meeting and delivered speeches. The meeting was presided over by the CAS deputy president Yin Hejun.

At the beginning of the meeting, Bai Chunli expressed his heartful thanks to the help provided by Nur Bekri who represents the party and government. In the past few years, the technology cooperation between CAS & Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region has made considerable progress in maintaining stability, agriculture technology promotion, environmental protection, personnel training and exchanges and other aspects of regional scientific development.

Bai Chunli pointed out that there are five key points on how to do Tech-support work well. First of all, focus on the center of maintaining Xinjiang’s stability and promote the significant cooperation programs to serve for the long-term stability; Second, continue the training mode of high-level innovative talents and form a group of qualified innovative personnel relying on local talents. Third, enhance the transformation of CAS technology programs and achievements in Xinjiang. Fourth, give full play to the advantage of CAS in sci-tech research and develop one think tank in Xinjiang. Fifth, enhance the collaborative work between CAS and autonomous region’s research institutes, universities, enterprises and other innovative units.

Nur Bekri also sent sincere greetings to Bai Chunli. He gave high comments on CAS’s support to Xinjiang. The visit reflected CAS’s distinct attitude and firm determination to work in Xinjiang, and he wanted to take this opportunity to make the cooperation between CAS & Xinjiang enter a new phase, he said.

For future cooperation, Chairman Nur Bekri recommended in four aspects. First, relying on sci-tech innovation, improve the quality and efficiency of economic and social developments in Xinjiang; focusing on the center of stability, carry out a number of projects on counter-terrorism, stability maintainance and promotion of the people’s scientific and cultural quality. Third, grasp the work on important sci-tech programs such as “110m diameter radio astronomy telescope”. Fifth, further promote cooperation in personnel training programs and actively carry out decision-making consultation. Besides, further develop the core economic zone of the Silk Road in Xinjiang.
