Professor Chen Xi Delivered a Keynote Speech in the 23rd UN Climate Change Conference

On 6 November 2017, United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP23) opened in Bonn, Germany. Further discussion on the rules for the implementation of the Paris Agreement will be conducted in this conference. More than 25,000 delegates from 195 parties to the Paris Agreement attended the conference.

On the conference opening day, a side event The Future Climate and Environment Change along the Millennium Silk Road, jointly organized by China Association for Science and Technology, Chinese National Committee for Future Earth, Chinese Academy of Sciences and China Meteorological Administration, was held at the Cities and Regions Pavilion in the Bonn zone.

Professor Chen Xi delivered a keynote speech at the conference, who is vice chairman of Xinjiang Science and Technology Association, member of Chinese national committee for future earth and vice president of Xinjiang Branch of Chinese Academy of Science. The report of the meeting expounded on China's position and action from the perspectives of economic development, climate change and coping strategies with the theme of international cooperation on climate and environment change in Great Central Asia, a key area of the Silk Road. The delegates exchanged their ideas and called for international cooperation to promote common development.

COP23 is the first UN climate conference since the United States withdrew from the Paris Agreement. Since China put forward the "Belt and Road Initiative". it has received extensive attention and positive response from the international community. The world media now particularly appreciated China’s role in global climate governance.
