On December 15, Zhang Xiaolei, president of the Xinjiang Branch and head of the Science and Technology Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, went to the Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIRI) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to conduct research. Zhang Xiaolei and his entourage watched the demonstration of the geospatial information platform and listened to the research report on related sciences and technologies about air and space information, introduction of high-tech enterprises, and had a discussion with Sun Dianyi, vice president of the AIRI, and related researchers.

Sun Dianyi introduced the overall situation of the AIRI and proposed that in order to further implement the central government's policy, and support the national “One Belt, One Road” initiative, the AIRI plans to establish the Xinjiang Research Institute of the AIRI, arrange scientific research power and build major scientific and technological infrastructures for information acquisition and application in the fields of air and space, build a platform for talent training and achievement transformation, and carry out research on key technologies and system integration technologies, engineering and industrialization, etc.
